May 1-31, 2003 -- Boat Work and Local Elections

This month was a quiet and busy month, both at the same time. We did the standard boat work, varnishing, sanding, more varnishing and regular maintenance on the generators, engines, water system and wind generator.

On May 9, the Netherlands Antilles had their national elections. According to the law, no establishment is permitted to sell alcohol for 24 hours prior to elections or for 24 hours after the polls close. I guess they are afraid of riotous behavior. Actually, that really was the reason we were given when we asked. So, what are you to do when you can't get drinks in town? We through a party! We invited the entire mooring field over to the boat. We had about 30 people on the boat from all over the world, as well as several friends from shore that we have made. It was a great evening.

The rest of the month was a haze of work, relaxing, diving and enjoying Bonaire.
